  • 2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine (BDMEP) is a colorless liquid. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in ethanol, acetone, and hexane. In the gas phase, BDMEP is very alkaline, but in solution it is weakly alkaline due to solvation steric hindrance. Therefore, BDMEP forms hydrochloride with HCl, but does not react with MeI or BF3.
