Phosphorus oxychloride is most used in the production of triaryl phosphates (such as triphenyl phosphate and trimethylphenyl phosphate), which can be used as flame retardants and plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride. It is also used in the preparation of diphenyl phosphate- isooctyl ester, triethyl phosphate and other phosphate esters, plastic plasticizers, organophosphorus pesticides, long-acting sulfonamide drugs, etc. It can also be used as a dye intermediate, a chloride agent and a catalyst for organic synthesis. Chemicalbooks for electronic grade phosphorus oxychloride are used in the solar industry, and phosphate esters can also be prepared from liquid phosphorus sources such as integrated circuits, separation devices, and light preforms. Trialkyl phosphates such as tributyl phosphate (prepared by a similar reaction of 1-butanol) are liquid-liquid extraction solvents used in industries such as nuclear fuel reprocessing. In the semiconductor industry, POCl3 is also used as a source of phosphorus in the diffusion process to prepare N-type silicon semiconductors by doping.
