The production efficiency of the punching method is very low, the product quality is not easy to grasp, and there is a lot of dust in the production process, which is very easy to catch fire and explode. In 1894, The German Hamtag used a ball mill to produce aluminum powder, put steel balls, aluminum chips and lubricants in the ball mill, and used flying steel balls to crush aluminum chips to become scaly aluminum powder, filling the ball mill and pipes with inert gases, this method is still used, called “dry production”. In 1910, J. Hall of the United States invented the addition of petroleum solvents in the ball mill instead of inert gases, and the aluminum powder produced was mixed with the solvent into a paste and became a slurry aluminum powder pigment. This method is simple in equipment, safe in process, very convenient to use, and soon adopted by countries around the world. Most modern aluminum powder pigments use this method, which is also called “wet method”.
