What is Gallium?

Industrial use
Manufacture of semiconductor gallium nitride, gallium arsenide, gallium phosphide, germanium semiconductor doped elements; Pure gallium and low-melt alloys can be used as heat exchange media for nuclear reactions; Fillers for high temperature thermometers; Catalyst for disesterification in organic reactions.
The industrial application of gallium is still very primitive, although its unique properties may be applied in many ways. The wide temperature range of liquid gallium and its low vapor pressure make it possible to use high temperature thermometers and high temperature manometers. Gallium compounds, especially gallium arsenide, have attracted increasing attention in the electronics industry. There is no accurate world gallium production data available, but production in the adjacent region is only 20 tonnes/year.
Gallium-68 emits positrons and can be used for positron tomography.
Gallium indium alloys can be used as a substitute for mercury.
Medical applications
After observing that cancerous tissue was attractive to 67Ga, the National Cancer Society noted that stable gallium was effective for rodent tumors. This has been tested on cancer patients. When taken at a dose of 750 mg / kg, gallium is harmful to the kidneys of the person. Constant instition of gallium in the preparation of drugs can reduce the toxicity of gallium to the renal tubules.
