The production cost of cadmium telluride thin-film solar cells is much lower than that of solar cell technology with crystalline silicon and other materials, and , it is very consistent with the solar spectrum and can absorb more than 95% of sunlight. On the basis of extensive and in-depth applied research, CdTe batteries in many countries in the world have begun to move from the laboratory research stage to large-scale industrial production.
Besides, cadmium telluride semiconductors can be used for spectral analysis, infrared electro-optical modulators, infrared detectors, infrared lenses and windows, phosphors, room temperature γ-ray detectors, light-emitting devices close to the visible light region, etc.
