1. Cadmium (98.65%) nickel (1.35%) alloys are bearing materials for plane engines. Many low melting point alloys contain cadmium, and the famous Wood fusible alloy contains cadmium up to 12.5%.
2. Cadmium has a large thermal neutron capture cross-section, so alloys containing silver (80%) indium (15%) cadmium (5%) can be used as control rods for atomic reactors (neutron absorption).
3. Cadmium compounds have been used in the manufacture of (yellow) pigments, plastic stabilizers, (TV image tubes) phosphors, insecticides, fungicides, paints, etc.
4. For electroplating, etc. Cadmium oxidation potential is high, so it can be used as a protective film for iron, steel and copper, and is used in electroplating and anti-corrosion, but because of its toxicity, this use has a tendency to shrink.
5. For rechargeable batteries: nickel- cadmium and silver – cadmium, lithium- cadmium batteries have the advantages of small size and large capacity.

Cadmium is also used in the manufacture of electrical alloys, such as electrical contacts in electrical switches using silver cadmium oxide materials, with good conductivity, small arc, good resistance to melt welding and other advantages [2], used in household appliance switches, automotive relays, etc. [3], but because cadmium is toxic and affected by the EU “Scrap Electronic and Electrical Equipment Directive” (WEEE) and the “Directive on restricting the use of certain harmful substances in electronic and electrical equipment ” (RoHS) two directives [4], Silver cadmium oxide materials in electrical switches are replaced by friendly materials such as silver tin oxide and silver nickel materials.
