Brefeldin A Usage
1. Brefeldin A, a commonly used protein transport inhibitor, specifically reversibly blocks the transport of proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi.
2. After Brefeldin A treatment, the Golgi apparatus is quickly destroyed and fused to the endoplasmic reticulum, which exhibits energy, temperature and microtubule dependence.
3. In mammals and yeast, Brefeldin A inhibition of protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus may be achieved by a class of GTP-exchange factors that activate Afr1p GTPase.
4. Arf1p forms transport vesicles by recruiting coat proteins to the inner membrane of the cell.
