Description of Lithium hydride

Lithium hydride is the inorganic compound with the formula LiH. It is a colorless solid, although commercial samples are grey. Characteristic of a salt-like, or ionic, hydride, it has a high melting point and is not soluble but reactive with all organic and protic solvents; it is soluble and non-reactive with certain molten salts such as lithium fluoride, lithium borohydride, and sodium hydride. With a molecular mass of slightly less than 8, it is the lightest ionic compound.

What is Lithium hydride?

Part I: Introduction

With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. The official answer: Lithium hydride is an inorganic compound with the molecular formula LiH. It is a hydride of lithium, also known as lithium monohydroxide, with a molecular weight of 7.95.

It is a colorless crystal, usually gray with impurities. Lithium hydride is a salt-like hydride with a high melting point and is thermally stable. Thermal conductivity decreases with increasing temperature and varies with composition and pressure. Lithium hydride is flammable and reacts violently with water to produce corrosive lithium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. It is not generally a hydride reducing agent, except in the synthesis of specific metal-like hydrides. For example, silanes can be chemically reacted by lithium hydride and silicon tetrachloride via the Sundermeyer process.

What’s the application of Lithium hydride?

1、Used as a desiccant, hydrogen generator, organic synthesis reducing agent, etc.
2、Used as a source of hydrogen generation in the military. Organic synthesis is used as a reducing agent.
3, lithium hydride in organic synthesis, used as a condensation agent, reducing agent, alkylation reagent, desiccant, and also a very good hydrogen storage material.
4, lithium deuteride in lithium hydride is the source of the element deuterium for fusion in the hydrogen bomb
