Levulinic acid chloride can be used as a bacterial inhibitor for industrial recycled water. In agriculture, the amine salt of levulinic acid chloride is used as a herbicide and defoliant. In medicine, levulinic acid can be made anti-inflammatory drugs and intravenous injection using starch, glucose, cellulose raw materials by deep hydrolysis. Usually heated with hydrochloric acid (or sulfuric acid) or another hydrolysis catalyst in the presence of conditions via the generation step of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, and then by the decomposition of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to obtain levulinic acid, concentrated by filtration, and then reduced-pressure distillation or extraction method to produce finished products
It can be reacted as carboxylic acid and ketone, and various products can be produced through esterification, halogenation, hydrogenation, oxidative dehydrogenation, condensation, and other chemical reactions. They are used as plastic modifiers, solvents, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, spices, pesticide intermediates, organic synthesis intermediates, polymer additives, lubricant additives, surfactants, printing inks, rubber additives, cosmetic additives (including shampoos and toiletries), etc.
