Description of Indigo

Indigo dye is an organic compound with a distinctive blue color (see indigo). Historically, indigo was a natural dye extracted from plants, and this process was important economically because blue dyes were once rare. A large percentage of indigo dye produced today – several thousand tons each year – is synthetic. It is the blue often associated with blue jeans.

Mainly used for dyeing cotton yarn, cotton cloth, wool, or silk, the pigment is an important product of pigmentation treatment of reduction dye indigo, with excellent light resistance, weather fastness, and heat resistance stability, giving blue tones, and can be prepared in liquid dispersion dosage form, mainly used in viscose fiber raw stock coloring and printing and dyeing. It is used as a biochemical agent and indicator as well as dyeing of cotton yarn, cotton cloth, wool or silk, etc. Used as a food coloring agent, China’s regulations can be used in red and green silk, the maximum use of 0.02g/kg; in juice (flavor) drinks, carbonated beverages, prepared wine, candy, pastries on the colorful, dyed cherry cans (for decoration), plums, the maximum use of 0.10g/kg; in the maximum use of macerated vegetables 0.01g/kg.
