What is 4-Chlorophenol?
With the progress of science and technology and the development of society, chemical products have invariably permeated our daily lives, in medicine, food, cosmetics, electronics, industry, and other areas, becoming an essential part of our lives. One such product is 4-Chlorophenol which has developed particularly rapidly in recent years. Do you know about 4-Chlorophenol?
The official answer: P-chlorophenol, also known as p-chlorophenol (English name p-chlorophenol), 4-chlorophenol (4-chlorophenol), 4-chloro-1-hydroxybenzene, p-chloro-hydroxybenzene (4-chloro-1-hydroxybenzene). Pure product is a colorless crystal, the industrial product is a yellow or pink crystal or powder. Volatile, the vapor has an unpleasant and irritating odor. Flammable, slightly soluble in water, solubility in water (20℃) 27.1g/L, soluble in benzene, ethanol, ether, glycerol, chloroform, fixed oil, and volatile oil. 1% aqueous solution makes litmus acidic, its acidity is less than phenol and stronger than benzene. This product is mainly used in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, plastics, and other industries, but is also used as an ethanol discoloration agent, refining mineral oil selective solvent, microscopic analysis, etc. P-chlorophenol is flammable when exposed to an open flame and high heat, and produces toxic and corrosive fumes from high-temperature thermal decomposition. It is a strong irritant to the eyes, mucous membranes, respiratory tract, and skin. Inhalation may cause death due to inflammation, edema, and spasm of the larynx and bronchi, chemical pneumonia, and pulmonary edema. Toxic manifestations include burning sensation, coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, headache, and nausea. Molecular formula C6H5ClO.
What’s the application of 4-Chlorophenol?
P-chlorophenol is mainly used in the industries of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, plastics, etc. It is also used as a denaturant for alcohol and a selective solvent for refining mineral oil, etc. It can also be used for microscopic analysis, plant growth promoters.
Used in the synthesis of dyes, and dilute nitric acid reaction to produce dinitro compounds are dyes intermediates; can further synthesize a variety of dyes, such as neutral brilliant green BL, etc. In the pesticide industry, it is mainly used in the synthesis of pink Rustin, mimosine, wool fungicide, anti-falling (multi-functional plant growth regulator), propamocarb (systemic insecticide), toxaphene, insecticide, mite ovate (non-systemic acaricide), deoxynivalenol, acaricide ether; in the pharmaceutical industry, it is used in the carboxylation of sodium 5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzoate, synthesis of anthranilic, p-chlorophenoxyisobutyric acid and other drugs; it is also used in the synthesis of antioxidant BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole), etc.
