Biological field
Calcium is used as a high-temperature thermal reducing agent, and metal chromium, thorium, uranium, rare earth elements, zirconium, and magnetic materials samarium cobalt alloy, hydrogen absorbing material lanthanum nickel alloy and titanium nickel alloy are prepared from oxides and halides. The Addition of Ca–Si alloys to steel prevents carbide formation. Lead-calcium alloy containing 0.04% calcium has high hardness and corrosion resistance, and is used as cable sheath and battery lead plate; Calcium is added to the aluminum alloy to enhance plasticity. Calcium is also used as an oxygen deoxidizer for smelting tin bronze, nickel and steel, deaerators in electron tubes and television picture tubes, dehydrating agents for organic solvents, desulfurizers for petroleum refining, nitrogen removers for pure inert gases (such as helium), decomposing thiophene and thiols with foul odors. Calcium fluoride is used as a raw material for optical glass, optical fibers, enamel, and as a flux. Calcium peroxide is a gentle oxidant used as a sterilization, antiseptic, bleaching agent, and also as a fast-drying agent for blocking glue.
